Nigerian woman reveals effect hair dye had on her

A Nigerian woman has revealed the effect that a hair dye she acquired had on her.

She took to the microblogging site, Twitter to narrate her ordeal.

The woman, who says she’s allergic to a particular ingredient in black dyes, shared two photos showing the extent of the damage done to her face after she dyed her hair.

Moments after the photos went viral, popular social media influencer and medical doctor , Aproko Doctor addressed the application and effects of hair dyes. He admonished his followers to take heed of certain chemicals why acquiring any type of hair prodct.

The medical practitioner mentioned that it is quintessential to stay away from hair products that contain PPD ( p-Phenylenediamine ).

Specifically, the chemical causes the head of its user to swell.

Here is what Aproko Doctor published on social media;

“Before you apply hair dye on your head, please check if PPD (p-Phenylenediamine) is part of the ingredients.

PPD is so powerful and toxic that it is illegal to use it on the skin.

This lady had a reaction to PPD and it caused her head to swell.”

Equally important , Paraphenylenediamine ( PPD ) is a chemical substance that is widely used as a permanent hair dye. 

Phenylenediamine otherwise popularly known as hair dye is an organic compound with the formular C6 H4 (NH2)2. This derivative is a white solid which it’s samples can darken blue to air oxidation.

PPD is used in hair dye because it is a permanent dye that gives a natural look, and the dyed hair can also be shampooed or permed without losing its colour.

Phenylenediamine when ingested is highly toxic. It causes respiratory distress, that is difficulty in breathing.

It also causes renal failure. Which simply means deficiency in defecation.

When it comes in contact with the eyes it causes eye inflammation, pink eyes, watery eyes or conjuctivitis otherwise popularly known by Nigerians as “Apollo”

In other words, Phenylenediamine is often referred to as hair dye poisoning.

Immediately you come in contact with this harmful liquid, rinse it off with warm water and mild soap.

After doing that, apply a solution of potassium permanganate to the affected area.

So please when buying something read the ingredients used in producing such product before usage. I hope you learnt one or two things from this mistake of this  woman.
