NIMC warns Nigerians as frausters clone NIMC App to steal BVNs
This warning was contained in a tweet via the NIMC Twitter handle on Monday.
Furthermore, the commission educated Nigerians on the difference between the fake and the original app.
It tweeted:“This app was not created by NIMC or the federal government, it is run by fraudsters, who are currently harvesting people’s NIN and BVN by default. Protect your data and stop disclosing personal information to unauthorised persons or platforms.”
According to his statement,“the NIMC Mobile App, and the new NIN slip are now available for public use. The App provides a secure channel for all Nigerians and legal residents to easily verify and authenticate their identities on-the-go using smartphones. It also enables them to link the NIN to their phone numbers.”
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Sunday, January 10, stated that the amendment of the Electoral Act without due consultation and commitment from stakeholders is no guarantee for the conduct of free and fair elections.
This was contained in a statement by the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.
Yakubu further noted that the Constitution and the Electoral Act can only be effective; through the action as well as inaction of the critical stakeholders in the electoral process.
He made this disclosure via a statement issued on his behalf by the INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.
This was at a three-day retreat of the Joint Technical Committee on the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2020.
The INEC Chairman said that other electoral actors, including; security agencies, as well as the media; and also civil society organisations, need to effectively play their roles to enhance electoral processes.
